Patriot Guard motorcyclists enjoy a more upbeat experience at first statewide rally

Note: The Missouri Patriot Guard Summer Rally will continue through 10:30 p.m. Saturday at the Mathewson Exhibition Center, with Joplin-based AC/DC cover band Dirty Deeds providing tunes; beer will be available for purchase. Admission is free.

Meade receives George C. Marshall Award

Army Cadet Daniel R. Meade has received the George C. Marshall Award during an awards ceremony at the Marshall Center, Virginia Military Institute in Lexington, Va. The award is named in the honor and legacy of General of the Army George C. Marshall, who served in World War II as the Army chief of staff and in the post-war era served as secretary of state and secretary of defense.

Family remembers fallen soldier

Former Sedalian Sgt. 1st Class Trenton L. Rhea’s life mission was to put others above himself. He believed until the end of his life that he was making a difference helping the people of Iraq and Afghanistan. On May 15, he died in Kandahar, Afghanistan, during combat operations while serving with the U.S. Army 603rd Military Police Company, U.S. Army Reserve out of Belton.
