La Monte American Legion Auxiliary 520 was notified that their essay entrant Col. Gloria J. Twilley won the national American Legion Auxiliary Award for her essay.
She wrote about why it is important to her to serve her country. Col. Twilley, past commander of the 509th Medical Group at Whiteman Air Force Base, was presented with the 2007-2008 Active Duty Service Woman Award at the national convention in Phoenix.
