Chris L. Havens, of Inola, Okla., was promoted to the rank of sergeant first class on Sept. 21, 2007. He serves as a platoon sergeant in Company C, 1-180th Infantry Battalion, 45th Infantry Brigade Combat Team (IBCT), Oklahoma Army National Guard. He served five years active duty at Fort Campbell, Ky., with the 101st Airborne Division and at Camp Garry Owen, Korea with the 7th Cavalry Regiment, 2nd Infantry Division as an intelligence analyst. He has served 21 years in the Oklahoma Army National Guard.
He is a 1977 graduate of Smith-Cotton High School. He received a bachelor’s degree in business administration from St. Gregory’s University in Shawnee, Okla. He is a litigation specialist at Equity Insurance in Tulsa, Okla. He is currently serving on active duty with the 45th IBCT. The 45th is conducting pre-deployment training at Fort Bliss, Texas. The brigade will deploy to Iraq in early this year. It will be conducting various administrative tasks throughout the International Zone in Baghdad. The 45th is expected to return in October.
