Sedalia teen killed in 1-car wreck

A Sedalia teenager was killed after being ejected from a vehicle Friday night in Pettis County.

Alejandro Mares, 17, was pronounced dead at 3:20 a.m. at University Hospital in Columbia. The driver, Kyle Miller, 19, of La Monte, was taken by helicopter to University Hospital with moderate injuries.

The accident occurred at 10:30 p.m. as Miller was southbound on state Route 127 just south of Wimer Road near La Monte.

Miller’s vehicle drove off the left side of the road, hit a ditch and overturned. Both occupants were ejected from the vehicle, according to Missouri State Highway Patrol reports.

Neither occupant was wearing a seat belt, the report states.
