A Smithton man arrested earlier this week has been formally charged with several counts of statutory rape.

According to a Pettis County Sheriff’s Office news release, Carter William Boehm, 21, was arrested Wednesday following an investigation into allegations he had consensual sexual intercourse with a 16-year-old white female. He has been charged with three counts of second degree statutory rape and four counts of second degree statutory sodomy.

According to court documents, the female’s mother and step-father contacted the Sheriff’s Office on May 28 to report they had discovered several text messages indicating their daughter had sexual intercourse with Boehm and provided their daughter’s cell phone that contained the messages. A search warrant was obtained for Boehm’s phone.

A detective interviewed the female, who stated she met Boehm several months ago through a mutual friend and she told him she was 16. She said they had consensual sexual intercourse three times, in January, February and the same day her parents contacted the Sheriff’s Office.

When asked if she had any other messages on her phone and what name Boehm was be listed under, the female said they were under the name “Babe.”

Boehm admitted to having consensual sexual intercourse with the female on three occasions, the same incidents the female had reported.

He has no criminal history, other than minor traffic violations.

Boehm is at the Pettis County Jail on a $40,000 bond, cash or surety. Online court records do not list an attorney for Boehm. A hearing or arraignment had not been scheduled by press time.
