Young people encouraged to explore opportunities in scouting

The Boy Scouts of America, Great Rivers Council, Osage Trails District, is encouraging area boys in grades one through five to join one of America’s largest youth programs — Cub Scouts.

According to a news release from the Great Rivers Council, Cub Scouting is a year-round educational program that can help families teach their children a wholesome system of values and beliefs while building and strengthening relationships among family members.

It also is an active program where boys learn new skills by participating in a variety of activities from camping, hiking and building pinewood derby cars to earning badges and awards to advance in rank, the release stated.

All of the activities done through Cub Scouting help achieve the program’s overall aims of character development, personal fitness and citizenship training.

Sedalia is the home to several Cub Scout packs located across the city. To learn more about Cub Scouting, check out one of the following Cub Scout meetings:

• Cub Scout Pack 54 meets at 7 p.m. on Tuesdays at the First United Methodist Church on the corner of Fourth Street and Osage Ave.

• Cub Scout Pack 58 meets at 6 :30 p.m. on the last Thursday of every month at Sacred Heart School at 416 W. Third St.

• Cub Scout Pack 61 meets at 7 p.m. on Mondays at Christ and Trinity Lutheran Church at 3201 Southwest Blvd.

• Cub Scout Pack 65 meets at 7 p.m. on Mondays at First Christian Church at 200 South Limit Ave.

• Cub Scout Pack 150 meets at 6:45 p.m. on Wednesdays at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints at 1201 W. Broadway Blvd.

• Cub Scout Pack 202 meets at 5:30 p.m. on Mondays at Wards Memorial Baptist Church at 412 N. Osage Ave.

• Cub Scout Pack 300 meets at 5 p.m. on Mondays and Wednesdays at Amigos de Cristo Iglesia Luterana on the corner of 11th Street and Thompson Boulevard.

• Cub Scout Pack 500 meets at 6 p.m. on Mondays at Cornerstone Baptist Church at 19856 Highway Y.
