FAMACHA parasite management training set June 18 in Versailles

Comments 0 | Recommend 0

A deworming strategy, known as FAMACHA, has been developed that allows producers to examine individual animals in a herd or flock and identify those animals that need treatment. By not treating all animals, resistance to dewormers in sheep and goats is reduced.

Producers who want to learn the FAMACHA technique of parasite management may attend a training session June 18 at the Versailles Fire Station meeting room. The classroom portion of the program begins at 1 p.m. Hands-on training of the FAMACHA system at a local farm will follow. The program will conclude by 5 p.m. Cost of the program is $12, which covers the cost of materials.

Producers may register on or before June 16 by contacting the Morgan County Extension Center at (573) 378-5358 or the Benton County Extension Center at (660) 438-5012. Contact Gene Schmitz at the Benton County Extension Center for more information on the program.
