This summer’s Camp Blue Sky will be a humorous adventure for campers.

Camp Blue Sky is a fine arts camp for children 5 years old through eighth grade.

The five-day camp is taught by experienced teachers and professional artists and gives attendees the opportunity to sing, dance, act, paint and sculpt. The camp is sponsored by the Cooney Endowment for the Arts and SFCC.

Registration for Camp Blue Sky will be held from 9 a.m. to noon April 16 in the Stauffacher Fine Arts Center on the State Fair Community College campus.

This year’s theme is “Giggles and Guffaws: Laffing Matters.”

Barbara Cooney said camp attendees will have the opportunity to explore humor in the arts including a look at cartoon strips, caricatures and artists who use humor in their work.

Cooney said the Camp Blue Sky Board came up with the idea for the theme by using a creative thinking technique called image streaming.

Last year’s theme was “Quest for Leonardo,” and campers were invited to explore the paths of genius with Leonardo da Vinci, sharpen their senses, awaken their curiosity and open themselves to “blue sky thinking.”

Cooney said staff and campers enjoyed last year’s theme, and they expect this year to be just as interesting.

“We’re looking forward to this year,” Cooney said.

The camp will be held August 1 through 5 on the SFCC campus.

The all-day camp fee is $110 and tuition for pre-school is $55.

The enrichment program for sixth, seventh and eighth grade students will include clay sculpture with Barney Knight, mixed-media projects with Jeremy Fry and other activities with guest artists.

An “arts in community” session will begin each morning at 8:15 a.m. and end at 3:15 p.m.

Pre-school sessions will be held from 8:15 to 11:15 a.m. or 12:15  to 3:15 p.m. Pre-school campers must be 5 years old and enrolled in kindergarten for fall to attend the camp.
