Gov. Nixon focused on economy and special session

Posted: Friday, August 19, 2011 12:00 am | Updated: 11:23 am, Wed Sep 5, 2012.

Missouri Gov. Jay Nixon celebrated a largely bipartisan spirit in Jefferson City and the resilience of the state’s residents during an interview with the Democrat this week.

Nixon, who will face re-election in 2012, told the Democrat an as yet unscheduled special session of the Missouri General Assembly will convene in early September, with a focus on job creation and “priming the pump” of the state’s economy. The governor hopes to see action on Compete Missouri legislation, meant to help cut red tape and improve the effectiveness state’s economic development tools. Foreign trade — including a second attempt at approving an international trade hub at Lambert-St. Louis International Airport — tax credit reform, paying for the slew of this year’s natural disasters will also be under consideration during the special session.
