The Salvation Army takes the fight to hunger with Summer Food Program

Posted: Friday, June 8, 2012 12:00 am | Updated: 12:07 pm, Wed Sep 5, 2012.

Sedalia Salvation Army Maj. Mark Haslett took a serious tone on Thursday as he drove the route between stops at distribution sites for the group’s Summer Food Program.

“I’d like to see us go out of business, but that is just not realistic,” Haslett said of the program, now in its third year under the Salvation Army umbrella, which is expected to serve 30,000 meals to hungry children by mid-August. “People say ‘Don’t you get used to it?’ I don’t want to get used to seeing a hungry child. If I get used to it, I might not want to do anything to change it.”
