Democrat reporters Sarah Nail and Matthew Steingraber are on the scene of the large-scale drug bust being carried out today by the Sedalia Police Department and Missouri Highway Patrol.
8:40 a.m. — 700 block of West 7th Street, one man arrested
8:45 a.m. — Police have been arresting people since about 7 a.m. About 20 to 30 officers from patrol; 31 people charged.
8:51 a.m. — 709 S. Park Ave., one person arrested
8:56 a.m. — Nine of the 31 suspects were already in custody this morning at the news conference. Several teams of officers are sweeping the city to make as many arrests as possible before word spreads.
9:00 a.m. — Another man arrested at Seventh and Kentucky. SWAT officers monitoring the house as police gather evidence inside.
9:16 a.m. — Sweep is the result of a seven-month undercover investigation by the Sedalia Police Department.
9:19 a.m. — Total bond for all 31 suspects is $9.1 million.
9:20 a.m. — Many of the charges are from sales near schools.
9:41 a.m. — The next house targeted, in the 1700 block of East 6th Street, appeared to have no one living in it. Papers and mail littered the stoop, and police could not contact anyone inside. Neighbors from across the street peered from their window as four patrol cars surrounded the home.
10:12 a.m. — We just got blocked by the marching band at 10th and Ingram. Had to wait for them to take the corner before all the cars could pass.
10:15 a.m. — The undercover officer continued working the case from her end today. She is exchanging text messages with a suspect, trying to set up a meeting, while five patrol cars wait down the street.
10:16 a.m. — Suspect arrested by STING officers in the 600 block of East 9th Street.
10:45 a.m. — 21 of the 31 suspects have been arrested. That includes the nine who were in custody before this morning's sweep started.
