Sedalia, region braces for storm’s punch

West central Missouri will feel the effects of “a fairly impactful winter storm” today, with the forecast calling for snow starting early and turning into sleet.

Evan Bookbinder, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service at Kansas City/Pleasant Hill, said in a Wednesday afternoon teleconference that today’s precipitation “will begin as all snow, then change to sleet south of Interstate 70 after the morning rush hour.” He said communities along U.S. Highway 50 should expect more sleet than areas to the north, with a minor threat of freezing rain; more freezing rain and ice is expected from Lake of the Ozarks south to Arkansas.
