The State Fair Community College Music Arts program will celebrate March as “Music in Our Schools Month” by presenting spring concerts at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday in the Stauffacher Theatre on the Sedalia campus.
The program will feature the 30-member SFCC Chamber Choir, the 18-member Jazz Choir and the 18 instrumentalists in the Jazz Runners performing music from the classical to the Big Band eras, including some classic rock ‘n’ roll.
Choral selections will include the jazz standards “L-O-V-E,” “Summer Samba” and “Happy Together,” as well as music from Russia and Scandinavia, the Broadway stage and the American heartland.
Instrumental selections will feature the band’s interpretations of songs such as “Make Me Smile,” “Shiny Stockings” and the Latin rhythm-infused “Conga.”
The choirs are under the direction of Ron Sayer, Music Arts program coordinator, and the Jazz Runners is under the direction of Kevin Holbert, Music Arts adjunct instructor. The choirs are accompanied by SFCC staff members Gwendolyn Kappelman and Cynthia Groff.
