Art lovers can expect high quality, outstanding artwork at the Christmas in July Art Show on Saturday, said Garnetta Sullivan, the show’s co-chairwoman.

The fifth annual show will be from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Wal-Mart parking lot, 3201 W. Broadway Blvd. The sale will feature pottery, paintings, textiles, jewelry and wood sculpture.

Artists who will display and sell their work are part of the Best of Missouri Hands, a group founded in 1989 that, according to its Web site is “dedicated to the development and recognition of Missouri’s arts and artisans through education, interaction and encouragement.”

The works are made by “highly skilled” artists, said Sullivan. “The quality of work will be overwhelming,” she said.

The Liberty Center Association for the Arts is sponsoring the sale to create a “public awareness for the visual arts,” Sullivan said.

Jeff Walker, a potter, said he started the Christmas in July Art Show five years ago because he thought that Sedalia needed a high-quality art show. Walker mainly emphasizes “functional utilitarian ware for use on an everyday basis,” according to the Web site.

Sullivan said the show committee may make the Christmas in July Art Show a two-day event in upcoming years.
