SFCC teacher recognized for texting innovation

Lisa Adams would rather embrace technology than fight it. That’s why she has students in her English classes at State Fair Community College send her their assignments via text message.

But Adams doesn’t settle for text-speak — she requires students’ submissions to be written in complete sentences, with proper spelling and punctuation. Through this, she has seen better retention and increased participation by students. She also has been praised by her peers, receiving the Mel Aytes Faculty Innovation Award on Oct. 31 at the Missouri Community College Association’s 48th annual convention in Kansas City.
