Sedalia’s ordinances get an updated home

Posted: Thursday, January 17, 2013 9:43 pm

In a storage room off the Sedalia City Clerk’s office is a book containing city ordinances first passed in the mid-1860s. Clerk Arlene Silvey doesn’t like to bring the book out too often as it’s crumbling with age.

“The ordinances in here are fascinating but they were written on parchment, so every time they’re touched, they fall a part a little,” she said. “There’s no real way to preserve paper like this. One day, hopefully, we’ll figure out a way to scan them so they can be available to us a little more easily.”
