Knob Noster schools seek property tax increase

KNOB NOSTER — Knob Noster public schools in April will seek a property tax increase for the first time in decades to ensure that the district continues to receive federal funding to offset the impact Whiteman Air Force Base has on the district’s ability to collect revenue.

Superintendent Jaret Tomlinson said, “We cannot collect property taxes for that federal land, so the Air Force has not only removed all that land from our tax base, but they also brought 900 children into our school district who we are responsible to educate (who) we have no way to generate funding for.”
