MAN ACCUSED IN SHOOTING POSTS BOND

his neighbor posted bond Saturday, according to the Henry County Sheriff’s Department John E. Hicks, 55, turned himself in Friday for a Henry County warrant with a charge of second degree murder for shooting Edwin Walrath, 36.



Hicks posted a $50,000 bond.



A preliminary hearing in the case has not been scheduled.



Hicks admitted to shooting Walrath at a coroner’s inquest last week. He testified that he was afraid of Walrath after a phone call threatening his life. The two had gone to court about a set of gates on a shared driveway that Hicks put up. Hicks testified he shot Walrath when after the man reached into the back of a pickup and grabbed what Hicks thought was a shotgun. The object turned out to be a wooden handle, like a sledgehammer handle.
