Steve Hanson, a board member with the Kaysinger Bluff Pioneer Heritage Association, shows how oil lamps will be attached to trees along several trails on about 12 acres to light the way for visitors to the 5th annual Kaysinger Christmas at the Harry S. Truman Visitors Center grounds near Warsaw. In addition to 130 oil lanterns, about 600 Mason jars with lit candles will mark the trails and buildings. The two-day Christmas event, 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday and noon to 8 p.m. Saturday will feature activities common in the 19th-century. In addition to bread and cookies baked on a wood stove, there will be blacksmithing, treadle sewing, broom making, bobbin lace making, kettle corn popping, chair caning and log shaving, Hanson said. There will also be hay rides, entertainment, a food court, trailer trams for the less mobile, and an area where people can roast hot dogs and marshmallows, he said. The admission price, good for both days, is $3 for adults, $2 for children 6-12 years, and under 6 years is free, Hanson said. The Visitors Center building will be closed during the event due to remodeling.
