Today’s challenge is to Git-R-Done’
Fairgoers should get ready for a sea of red plaid shirts with the sleeves cut off in preparation for today’s Larry the Cable Guy lookalike contest.
The contest is part of the fair’s Git-R-Done day, which also includes a state fair challenge, special vendor offers and food challenges.
“We knew with Larry coming to the Pepsi Grandstands, we wanted to create a whole themed day around that,” said Marketing Intern Philip Gruenwald. “I think anyone who comes through the gates (today) is going have a great time.”
The day starts off with a Git-R-Done Challenge, a scavenger hunt to see the top 10 “must-do’s” at the fair.
“We came up with the challenge ideas in the marketing office but also using our Facebook site and social media, asking people what things they do every year at the fair,” Gruenwald said. “It’s mostly fun things — getting the weight of the largest pumpkin, taking a photo on a carnival ride — but we threw in some more challenging things too like getting the autograph of one of the free entertainment performers.”
Challenge lists are available online or at any information booth; a winner will be randomly chosen to receive 22 adult admission tickets to the 2013 Missouri State Fair.
“The challenge isn’t a prerequisite for the lookalike contest but it makes for a fun day,” Gruenwald said. “The contest will be on the Touchstone Energy Stage. Contestants will be judged on appearance, vocal and humor, and audience feedback so we definitely encourage people to bring a crowd to cheer them on.”
Gruenwald said there will be “one or two surprise judges” and the winner of the contest will receive two meet-and-greet passes to Larry’s concert today.
“We’re expecting a pretty big turnout, a lot of people have been calling for details on the contest,” he said. “It’s just going to be a fun, family-friendly time and we hope to see everyone out there.”
