Fourth of July holiday passes relatively quiet in area

Posted: Thursday, July 5, 2012 12:00 am | Updated: 12:06 pm, Wed Sep 5, 2012.

According to city and county officials, most residents heeded warnings about dry weather conditions and chose not to set off their own fireworks Wednesday. While overall calls for injuries and major incidents were down this year, minor calls were technically up.

“We had just one more call this year than last, which is pretty unbelievable,” said Sedalia Police Department Cmdr. Matt Wirt. “We had 49 calls related to fireworks, which includes everything from noise complaints to people calling about neighbors shooting off fireworks within the city limits.”
