Deidre Esquivel — known for her work with the Sedalia School District Foundation, PTA groups and the Sedalia-Pettis County United Way — won the 2013 Pink Flamingo Award with 2,915 votes, which Boys & Girls Clubs of West Central Missouri executive director Barth-Fagan noted is “a lot of votes.” She is pictured with Flora the Flamingo, portrayed by Jamie Ditzfeld.
Saturday’s “Evening of Heart and Hope” raised money for the Boys & Girls Clubs of West Central Missouri not only through the live and silent auctions, but also through sales of the children’s artwork in the Kids Korner.
Emcee Brett Barth-Fagan ran the “Heads or Tails” game on Saturday at the “Evening of Heart and Hope.” Participants chose heads or tails on a series of coin flips until only one remained. The winner got his pick among selected items in the live auction.
Boys & Girls Clubs volunteers Ashley Dillon, left, and Amanda Colter offered attendees the opportunity to purchase a balloon for $10. Inside each balloon was a number corresponding to an envelope which contained gift certificates from area businesses good for $10 to $50. It was one of many little fundraiser efforts throughout the evening, which was highlighted by a live auction.
