He has thrilled live and television audiences for decades and traveled millions of miles.

He is The Amazing Kreskin, and he will bring his world-renowned mentalist act to the Liberty Center on Saturday, sponsored by the Orlando, Fla.-based Pledge4Patriots, a nonprofit that helps raise funds for first responders and community organizations. Saturday’s show will be one of many this year for Kreskin, who logged 357 appearances in 2012.

“The demand for my work has been so staggering,” Kreskin told the Democrat on Monday, adding that he has no intentions of letting up any time soon.

Known for his predictions, Kreskin stressed that he isn’t a psychic. Rather, he is “tuned into (the audience’s) thoughts.”

“For people coming to see me, they should understand this is an experience. The audience is really, truly tuned into what I am doing. It is an experience that demonstrates the great potential the human mind has,” Kreskin said.

A fan of breaking down the barrier between performer and audience, Kreskin has a running segment at his shows that involves giving the check for his performance to members of the audience. He is then escorted from the theater by other members of the audience, who remain with him while his check is hidden somewhere in the venue.

If he is unable to locate his check, he foregoes his appearance fee.

“I’ve done it over 6,000 times around the world,” he said. “I’ve only failed nine times.”

A staple of the late night talk show circuit, from Johnny Carson to Jimmy Fallon, Kreskin said one of the real highlights of his career was being used as the basis for actor John Malkovich’s role in the 2008 film “The Great Buck Howard.”

“Malkovich has a great monologue that I really enjoyed,” he said. “That really was a priceless part of my career.”

Kreskin will perform at 7 p.m. Saturday at the Liberty Center, with standard tickets costing $22.50 and a limited number of VIP tickets (including a meet-and-greet) running $30. Tickets are available by calling Pledge4Patriots Vice President Greg Padgett at 221-3676, or through the Liberty Center box office. Box office hours are 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. today through Friday and one hour before show time.
