Sedalia Democrat journalists won seven awards, including two first-place honors, in the Missouri Associated Press Media Editors 2011 News Writing Contest.
Photographer Sydney Brink won first place in feature photography for his image of two Cub Scouts reacting to the finish of a Pinewood Derby race. The judge commented: “Nice ‘thrill of victory’ moment coupled with ‘what happened to my car?’ moment. A good example of capturing the essence of Pinewood Derby racing without actually showing the race.”
