Dinner, dancing, auctions and Texas Hold’em are on the agenda for the annual Moose Lodge 1494 fundraiser Saturday to benefit Putting Roofs Over People.

“This is the fourth year we’ve had a fundraiser for PROP and every year it’s gotten a little bigger, so we’re hoping this time is no different,” said Donna Harner, senior regent with Women of the Moose. “PROP, through Pettis County Community Partnership, does a lot for the community and we know they help clients in any way they can. It’s a worthy cause.”

The fundraiser will feature live and silent auctions — which includes gifts ranging from salon baskets, a Waterloo tool box, a 60-inch under the counter unit from Duke Manufacturing and jewelry — along with dancing and dinner.

“We’ll have a country band from 6 to 8 p.m. and if you don’t like that, we have a classic rock band from 9 to 11 p.m.,” Harner said. “Our goal is to have a little bit of everything for people to enjoy.”

Local fundraisers like this one are critical to PCCP’s success, said Administrator Roxanne Parker.

“Most of our funding, I’d say 99 percent, comes through federal and state grants and they are very, very specific about where and how we can spend the money,” Parker said. “With local events, such as the Moose Lodge fundraiser, we can take that money and really spread it around however we need to.”

In the past PCCP has used those unrestricted dollars to pay for things such as prescription medication co-pays, eyeglasses and dress shoes for clients going on job interviews, among other things.

“It really helps us for those clients who don’t fit specifically into the categories we’re allowed to fund,” Parker said. “We had a client recently who had a job interview in Columbia but no gas money to get there. With money from these local fundraisers we can provide him that.”

Ideally, Parker added, PCCP would see between $15,000 and $20,000 in local funding each year.

“Every little bit helps though, we won’t turn anything away,” she said with a laugh. “The Moose fundraiser, it’s not a huge amount compared to our federal grants, but it really does fill a vital need.”
