Queen City Electric Company is turning off the lights after over a century in business

Posted: Tuesday, June 26, 2012 12:00 am | Updated: 12:08 pm, Wed Sep 5, 2012.

After more than 100 years in business, Sedalia-based Queen City Electric Company will close. Queen City President Mike Hurley told employees Monday that the closure of the electrical company had been debated for some time.

“This wasn’t a sudden decision, it’s just time,” Hurley said. “I’ve been working (at Queen City) for 40 years and am getting close to retirement age; my brother Jack is also close to retiring and there’s no one to take over the  business.”
