Sedalia man charged with drug trafficking
A Sedalia man faces a drug trafficking charge after police say they found him in possession of methamphetamine in a hotel room where he had overstayed his welcome.
Justin R. Crum, 23, was charged Tuesday with second-degree trafficking in drugs, possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute, interfering with a felony arrest and possession of a controlled substance. The drug trafficking charge, a Class A felony, could carry between 10 and 30 years in prison upon conviction.
Crum was arrested Monday at Comfort Inn, 3600 W. Broadway Blvd., after hotel employees called police and reported that Crum had not checked out on time and refused to pay for another night’s stay, according to the police report.
Sedalia Patrolman Matt Sprinkles said when officers entered the hotel room, Crum was asleep. After police searched him, a package of methamphetamine fell from his pants, Sprinkles said.
“When I moved him to set him down, a little bit of meth fell out of his pant leg,” Sprinkles said. “He dove on top of it and tried to rub it into the carpet.”
Crum remained in custody at the Pettis County Jail on Tuesday in lieu of a $250,000 bond.
