Sedalia School District 200 uses iPads to reach autism students

Posted: Friday, March 23, 2012 12:00 am | Updated: 11:51 am, Wed Sep 5, 2012.

Sedalia educators are using iPads to connect with and improve education for students with autism.

Heather Oelrichs, autism/behavior specialist with the West Central Cooperative and Sedalia School District 200, said, “iPads are nice because they are significantly cheaper than many assistive technology devices, which can run up to $10,000.” The latest version of the iPad starts at about $500. Most of the applications that Oelrichs and her fellow instructors are using are free, but one is $100; even with that cost, iPads remain “easier to use and more economical,” Oelrichs said.
