Statler directs Harry Hoffert in setting up the rifle mounting hardware.
An LCD screen is tied into the rifle scope which allows Statler to sight his target. He moves a joystick with his chin to position the rifle.
Eric Statler, 45, who is paralyzed from the neck down, sucks on a tube to fire off a round from a .243 Remington rifle during a rifle sighting session Thursday at the Sedalia Rod and Gun Club. After several adjustments to the framework attaching the rifle to his wheelchair, Statler was able to hit a clay pigeon about 100 yards away on his third shot. Assisting Statler is Harry Hoffert, of Huntin' & Fishin' w/Harry and Mo Kids Outdoors, left, and Keith Rowland, on whose land Statler will hunt for deer on Saturday. Not pictured is Dan Vogt, with Whitetails Unlimited.
