Half of the youth center is still a work in progress but the space already has been used to host a Christian Rock band with about 100 kids in attendance during a Jan 5 grand opening.
SYDNEY BRINK/DEMOCRAT As youth pastor for the Cornerstone Baptist Church, Tim Carter has been helping lead the effort to revamp a former retail store building at 420 W. 16th St. into the Sedalia Youth Center, a place where Pettis County's youths, grades 6th-12th, can gather every first and third Saturday of the month and have fun. Carter said the center is starting out with a light schedule to work out any problems, but plans to expand with the expectation of offering some kind of afterschool program.
The center offers three Xbox 360's and two Wii stations with the sofa comforts of home.
The Sedalia Youth Center is located at the corner of South Vermont Avenue and West 16th Street.
