Adults should dig out their flashlights for the ninth annual adult egg hunt sponsored by Child Safe of Central Missouri Inc.

This year’s hunt will begin at 5:30 p.m. March 23 at the Mathewson Exhibition Center on the Missouri State Fairgrounds.

More than 4,000 eggs will be scattered throughout the campground area. Each egg will be numbered and more than 450 eggs will have a winning number inside. Prizes will range in value from $2 to $100.

Twelve of those eggs will be golden and contain prizes valued between $100 to $500. Prizes range from a $100 gift certificate to the End Zone Sports Bar and Grill, $300 Breaktime gift card, $500 gift card to Bischel Jewelry to a Kindle Fire HD. One grand prize egg will be worth between $500 and $1,000. Meanwhile, the person who finds the “car” egg will have a chance to win a 2013 Chrysler 200, courtesy of Bryant Motors.

Tickets are on sale now and cost $35 per person, who must be 21 or older. The price includes entrance to the egg hunt, dinner catered by Bandana’s and entertainment provided by Puff Productions.

Attendees are encouraged to bring cash since adult beverages, games, a 50/50 pot and other raffles cost extra. Beer and mixed drinks will be available for sale. A chance to win an iPad at the spinning wheel costs $20. A card game, Blockbuster game and reverse bingo game costs $10 or get three chances for $25. Prizes range from an Xbox Kinect to a lap top and a Kindle Fire.

The annual fundraiser has brought in as much as $60,000 in recent years, according to Carolyn Green, executive director for Child Safe. The board hopes to top that number this year.

“The total cost per child providing Child Safe services was $667 in fiscal year 2012,” Green said. “Last year we saw an increase of 25 percent in the number of youth served, and we are on track to exceed that number again in 2013.

Of this cost in fiscal year 2012, 32 percent was not covered by grants or other state funding. If we increase our services by just 10 percent, our fundraising costs could be over $104,000.”

Child Safe of Central Missouri Inc. is a child advocacy center that serves children who are victims of severe physical or sexual abuse. This is the organization’s major fundraiser.

Tickets are available at online at childsafe

house.org and at Warehouse Tire and Muffler, End Zone Sports Bar and Grill, Players Sports Bar and Grill in Warrensburg and Midland Printing through Friday. They may also be purchased at the door.
