BRHC Auxiliary awards scholarships
The Bothwell Regional Health Center Auxiliary recently awarded its annual scholarships to Kathy Beasley and Leanna Dedman.
Beasley and Dedman, both of Sedalia, will each receive a $1,000 nursing scholarship, according to a news release from Bothwell Regional Health Center.
Beasley, a registered nurse at Bothwell, is pursuing her Bachelor of Science in Nursing at the University of Central Missouri. She has been in the nursing profession for 29 years and is currently assistant director of perioperative services at the health center.
“I believe the nursing profession is one of the greatest professions,” Beasley said in the news release. “It is a profession where you hope you were able to make a difference in someone’s life, and that is why we continue to do what we do.”
Dedman, a certified nursing assistant who has been with the health center since 2009, currently works in the Critical Care Unit at Bothwell. She is also working toward becoming a licensed practical nurse at the Saline County Career Center in Marshall.
“Nursing is a very rewarding field to enter,” she was quoted as saying in the news release. “It’s not just a job to get from one paycheck to the next. There is no limit to learning when you’re a nurse, so the possibilities are endless, which makes the nursing field more rewarding and fulfilling to me.”
Each year, the Bothwell Regional Health Center Auxiliary awards one scholarship to a student entering the nursing field and one to a current nurse at the Bothwell who is furthering their nursing career.
The scholarships are funded through proceeds from the health center’s gift shop.
“Nursing is a career choice where there is always a need for more,” said Karen Suroff, chairman of Bothwell’s Auxiliary Scholarship Committee and a former nurse at Bothwell.
“The goal of the Auxiliary is to financially help those who are pursuing this career path. We are always in need of quality nurses, and this is one way to ensure we will have nurses to help meet the needs of our community.”
