Companies honored for years of service

Some 865 years of business in Sedalia.

That’s was the tally at the fourth annual Manufacturing Milestone Anniversary Recognition Event paying tribute to 21 companies in manufacturing, distribution, warehouse and technology in Sedalia.

The Thursday night event recognized companies celebrating milestone anniversaries in five-year increments ranging from 10 years to 140 years.

The Sedalia Democrat was noted for its 140 years of service in Sedalia. The Democrat, established in 1868, is a daily newspaper that prints and distributes 12,000 papers daily and serves 35,000 online readers. The newspaper employs 100 employees and the paper is delivered by 50 independent contractors.

The Democrat also prints the Plainsman Weekly News and the Whiteman Air Force Base Warrior, and has a commercial printing operation that serves Missouri and Kansas.

The newspaper became part of Freedom Communications in 1995.
John Swearingen, president of the Economic Development Corp. and master of ceremonies, presented the Democrat and the other companies plaques at the Sedalia Country Club.

“Sedalia Missouri is still a wonderful place to raise a family and start a business and grow a business,” Swearingen said. “Sedalia will continue to be that.”

Mayor Bob Wasson told the gathering:  “We certainly have the potential here and we have proved that.”

Adco Cleaning Products LLC, at 900 W. Main St., is celebrating 100 years of service in Sedalia. Adco provides research, development, manufacturing, sales and distribution of chemicals for the dry-cleaning and laundry industry. The company employs 75 people.
State Fair Moving and Storage Inc., at 118 N. Lamine Ave., is celebrating 60 years. The company provides North American Van Lines Household Moving and Storage Services and Motor Freight. The company employs 18 people.

D&D Beverage, of 1218 W. Main St., is celebrating 55 years of service in Sedalia. The company distributes beer, other malt beverages and non-alcoholic drinks for Miller Brewing Co. and Boston Beer Co. The company has 11 full-time and four part-time employs and sells nearly 400,000 cases of beverages per year.

Companies celebrating 45-year anniversaries:

•DeLong’s Inc., 131 S. Harding Ave. The company produces structural steel including plate girders for bridges, structural steel for buildings and other steel products.

•CED/Philips & Co. Inc., 310 Thompson Road, is a wholesale distributor of electrical equipment and supplies. The company has seven employees.

•W & M Welding Inc., 202 Industrial Drive, specializes in the distribution of steel and aluminum and also helps with welding services and maintenance services. The company employs 31 people.

Companies celebrating 40-year anniversaries:
•Alcan Inc., 20213 Whitfield Road, manufactures aluminum building wire products used in residential, commercial and institutional construction. The company employs 238 people.

•Sedalia Cold Storage, 314 W. Main St., cold storage and refrigerated warehouses for companies to store their products. The company employs four people.

Companies celebrating 35-year anniversaries are:

•Marcum Hauling Inc., 21221 W. Main St. Road, provides road and construction trucking services to contractors all over the state. The company has 16 employees and six owner-operators.

•Midland Printing, 1021 S. Ohio Ave., does commercial printing and sells office supplies. The company employees eight people.

•Missouri Pressed Metals Inc., 1200 E. Boonville Road, produces metal bearings used in appliances, power tools, automotive and lawn and garden equipment. The company has more than 60 employees.
Companies celebrating 30-year anniversaries:

•Advantage Metal Recycling Inc., 300 North Iron Ave., specializes in recycling needs for companies and individuals. The company employs 35 people.

•Hayes Lemmerz International Inc., 3610 W. Main St., is the largest supplier of automotive and commercial highway wheels in the world. The company has 500 employees.

•Heart of America Beverage Co., 1510 W. Henry St., distributes alcoholic beverages. The company has 15 employees.

•Waterloo Industries Inc., 1500 Waterloo Drive., manufactures tool storage and organizational products for Sears, Home Depot, Lowe’s, Kmart, W.W. Grainger and John Deer. The company has 600 employees.
Companies celebrating 20-year anniversaries:

•Storage Barn Builders LLC, of 5901 S. Limit Ave., is celebrating its 20-year anniversary. The company provides storage buildings and garages and recently manufactured shingle elevators.
Companies celebrating 15-year anniversaries:

•Ideal Tool & Manufacturing, 1100 S. Harding Ave., is a precision machine shop specializing in die tooling fabrication, fixtures and welding needs for manufacturers. The company employs 27 people.

•Tyson Foods Inc., 19571 Whitfield Road, produces poultry food products and works with area farmers to produce hatching eggs and broilers. The company also produces poultry feed. Tyson employs more than 1,700 people here in a 469,000-foot plant here.
Companies celebrating 10-year anniversaries:

•Independent Electric, 225 S. Kentucky Ave., sells and services repair motors, generators, hoists, transformers, welders, and distribution equipment. The company, with five employees, offers predictive maintenance programs, electronic repair and inspection services. The company has five employees.

•Stribling Packaging, 107 Curry Drive, manufactures and distributes corrugated packaging and related accessories.
