Valley of Hope meets

Valley of Hope, a support group for grandparents raising grandchildren, hosted their monthly meeting at Community of Christ Church. The meeting was opened with prayer by President Debby Ward Hostetter. Present were Hostetter, three grandparents, seven grandchildren and volunteers Jan, Sharon, Elaine, Hawk and Diane.

The first speaker was Det. Davis and Fireman Kyle Gilmore and Bill Twenter who spoke on installing child safety seats.

The second presenter was Carolyn Green from Child Safe of Central Missouri Inc. She spoke about how to look for child abuse and the process when child abuse has been reported.

Letty Rodriguez, form Health Care USA, taught the children about germs and the proper way to wash their hands. She then spoke to the group about what Health Care USA does.

Family photos were taken by Elaine and Hawk.

The chili and soup fundraiser was discussed. A time and location were decided. The proceeds will be used to send grandchildren to church camp.

Also discussed was selling candy bars and Sonic discount cards. It was decided that the sale would begin Jan. 20.

Refreshments were served by Jan and Sharon. The next meeting will be at 10 a.m. Feb. 8, at 2000 S. Ingram Ave.

BRHC Auxiliary Board meets

The Bothwell Regional Health Center Auxiliary Board of Directors met Jan. 13. Carol Ackerman, Awards and Recognition Chair, announced service awards to the following: Kay Butler, 400 hours; Anna Craig, 6,000 hours; Sherry Galliher, 100 hours; Mary Lee McGuire, 400 hours; and Marcy Sandidge, 300 hours. Volunteer hours worked in December totaled 1,081.

With appreciation to all who supported the Auxiliary Gift Shop, Christmas sales were very good. Christine Detherage, Nominations Chair, presented the names of Betty Sue Viterna to serve as vice president and Virginia McAllister to serve as treasurer. Both were re-elected to serve a two year term. The Used Book Sale held in the BRHC Cafe Jan. 8 and 9 was successful with sales of $671. Marge Watson, Auxiliary Blood Drive Chair, along with the following: Anna Lee Bail, Vickie Perry, Martha Bridges, Anna Craig, Anne Hamilton and Jane Cornine, assisted with the Community Blood Drive held at First Christian Church on Dec. 10. The next drive is scheduled for Feb. 11. The next board meeting will be Feb. 10.
