Rezoning, fireworks on city council’s agenda

    The Sedalia Democrat

The Sedalia City Council is expected to take up a rezoning request and an agreement with the State Fair for an annual fireworks display at its meeting Monday.

The council plans to convene in committee meetings at 6:45 p.m. in the mayor’s conference room of City Hall. It will move to Council Chambers at 7 p.m. Both meetings are open to the public.

Items on the agenda include a rezoning proposal from podiatrist Dr. Anthony Sikoutris. The doctor would like to move his office into a building at 2314 S. Ingram Ave., which is zoned residential.

It would need to be changed to non-retail commercial for the move to take place.

The Planning and Zoning Board has recommended the council deny Sikoutris’ request.

Two property owners attended a public hearing about the rezoning and said they were concerned the doctor’s office would bring more traffic to the area.

Also on the agenda is an agreement with the Missouri State Fairgrounds to host the annual Fourth of July fireworks display. The city would lease the grandstand at no cost, and extend its liability insurance for the event.

The council is expected to adjourn to a closed session.
