Wire Rope worker's death ruled an industrial accident

Pettis County Coroner Robert “Skip” Smith recently ruled that a Wire Rope Corp. of America employee died in an industrial accident.
Robert Hursman, 31, of Warrensburg, died of massive head and upper body injuries Jan 22 when he became entangled in a machine that braids wire rope, Smith said.
“There were no (drug or alcohol) substances in his system at all,” he said. “It was strictly an accident.”
The Occupational Safety and Health Administration gave WRCA a citation for a “serious violation for machine guarding,” said Jeane Williams, OSHA’s assistant area director for the Kansas City office.
The citation carries a fine of $5,000.
WRCA has contested the findings from the investigation, and it’s up to lawyers to decide what penalty the company will receive, Williams said.
Representatives from WRCA did not return phone calls Monday afternoon.
