Dear Editor:

I wanted to express my thanks to you and Faith Bemiss on the article in the Thursday paper on the United Way Kick-Off. This is a very worthwhile project in the Sedalia area and benefits so many people. I do want to correct a mistake though. I was listed as the cook for the pulled pork sliders. Although they were excellent and I wish I could take credit for them, I was not at the kick-off. Greg Smith the president of IAFF Local 103 of the Sedalia Fire Department did the cooking and serving. Local 103, although a labor organization, is a tremendous supporter of the community and participates in so many charitable functions with both monetary support and more importantly volunteers to help. From working with the coat program for Washington school to providing mentors to school children and much more they constantly give back to the community they serve.

Thank you for giving me the opportunity to clarify who did all the work and the organization they represent.

Greg Harrell

Deputy Chief Sedalia Fire Department
