Law Day cases for Dec. 7
Comments 0 | Recommend 0The following cases were heard Monday in Pettis County Circuit Court, according to Prosecuting Attorney Jeff Mittelhauser:
• Patrick Brown, 23, of Sedalia, pleaded guilty to the felony sexual misconduct involving a child and the misdemeanor of child molestation in the second degree, admitting that on Dec. 25, 2008, he induced a 14-year-old girl to expose herself to him and he touched her genitals. The state recommended a 180-day jail sentence, and the case was continued to Jan. 4 for sentencing.
• Betty Clemens, 48, of Windsor, pleaded guilty to stealing. She was arrested Sept. 21 after Martha Sherrill reported that a purse containing her credit cards was stolen from a church in Windsor. The court ordered a sentence assessment report and scheduled a sentencing hearing Feb. 9.
• Alejandro Sanchez Garcia, 42, of Sedalia, pleaded guilty to driving while intoxicated, admitting he was intoxicated when Trooper P. D. Sublette arrested him during the Missouri State Fair. The offense was a felony because Garcia has three prior DWI convictions. He was sentenced to serve three years in prison.
• Lupe Hernandez-Franco, 35, address unknown, pleaded guilty to forgery. When Pettis County Sheriff’s Sgt. Tolbert Rowe arrested Hernandez-Franco on an outstanding warrant Oct. 2 he presented a forged Permanent Resident Card as a form of identification. Hernandez-Franco received a two-year prison sentence.
• Michael High-Frump, 18, of Sedalia, entered a guilty plea to stealing in connection with a Sept. 18 theft from an apartment on West Third Street. When questioned by Sedalia Police Reserve Det. Ron Parrish, High-Frump admitted he entered Robert Mills’ apartment and stole his laptop computer. High-Frump was placed on probation for five years with requirements that he serve 30 days in jail as shock detention, pay restitution to the victim and perform 120 hours of community service work.
• Alex Palma, 30, of Sedalia, pleaded guilty to domestic assault in the third degree. Palma admitted he placed Johanna Gomez-Sandoval, a former girlfriend, in apprehension of immediate injury during an argument July 13. Execution of a 180-day jail sentence and Palma was placed on probation for two years with requirements that he serve five days in jail as shock detention, have no contact with the victim and pay restitution for damage to the victim’s property.
• Bobby Gene Peek, 42, of Clinton, pleaded guilty to possession of a methamphetamine precursor chemical in connection with an April 2 arrest by Pettis County deputies Mark Morgan and Tolbert Rowe. He was one of four people arrested by the deputies after they received information that a group was traveling to area pharmacies to buy pseudoephedrine pills. Peek was sentenced to serve four years in prison. Co-defendants Walter Peek, Deborah Peek and William Moon have also entered guilty pleas, receiving four-year sentences.
• Kendis Scroggins, 52, of Sedalia, pleaded guilty to driving with a revoked license, a charge stemming from an April 25 arrest by Sedalia Patrolman Sean Bonchonsky. The offense was a felony because Scroggins has at least four convictions for various offenses. He was sentenced to serve two years in prison.
• Steven Shephard, 18, of Cole Camp, pleaded guilty to burglary in the second degree, admitting he unlawfully entered a business at 620 W. Main St. on Oct. 13 with the intention to commit stealing. The business owner interrupted the burglary and held Shephard until police arrived. Shephard was placed on probation for five years with requirements that he serve 120 days in jail as shock detention, testify truthfully as a witness in the case against his codefendant, and perform 120 hours of community service work.
• Anthon Smith, 17, of Emma, pleaded guilty to stealing in connection with thefts from several vehicles in late July. He admitted he and another person stole property from vehicles owned by Donny Edgar, Lauren Quick, Brandon Johnson, Nicole Alexander and Craig Sullivan. Smith was placed on probation for five years with a requirement that he serve 30 days in jail as shock detention. No restitution was ordered because Smith and his co-defendant returned the stolen property. Charges remain pending against co-defendant Aaron Schlatweiler.
