Roe Thomas, 71, took time Wednesday afternoon play a little basketball at Vermont Park with her grandson Jake Thomas, 13, a student at Smith-Cotton Junior High.
“I pick him up after school, usually he plays and I stand here looking like the Statue of Liberty without her torch,” Roe said laughing. She said that Jake usually plays two-on-two with friends while she reads a book nearby, but on Wednesday she tried catching the ball with him a few times.
“I get to see him everyday that’s what’s important,” she added. “I told him when I get Alzheimer’s, just to remember the good times we had.”
