The Sedalia City Council will once again have eight councilmembers if council votes to approve Mayor Steve Galliher’s recommendation to fill the Ward 2 seat during its meeting today.
Galliher is recommending Russell Driskell to fill the Ward 2 seat vacated by former councilmember Becca La Strada two weeks ago due to health issues. If council approves the recommendation, Driskell will be sworn in before the meeting continues.
Council will also be voting to approve an ordinance amending the budget for the Fiscal Year 2014-15. The amendments are to provide additional funds for anticipated demolition expenses after the demolition of the buildings on Ohio Avenue depleted the city’s entire demolition budget, and other buildings will need to be demolished later this fiscal year.
The amendment will also adjust the capital expense budget to allow for debt service expenses related to the fire station and the bridge which are not reflected in the current budget. The General Fund will not be impacted.
During the meeting council will also:
• Hear a presentation from City Administrator Gary Edwards, which will be a quarterly update on the status of the City of Sedalia’s strategic goals.
• Approve an ordinance approving the airport hangar lease and farm lease forms. The proposed lease agreements, which are the first revisions in several years, are the result of discussions by the Airport Board and have been reviewed by City Attorney Anne Gardner.
• Approve an ordinance granting a special permit use to Cellco Partnership dba Verizon Wireless to install a 190 foot self-support communications tower on its property at 1701 W. 32nd St. for an initial term of five years. A public hearing regarding this permit was hosted July 2, and the Planning and Zoning Commission unanimously approved a recommendation to council that this request be approved.
• Approve a records destruction request from the Personnel Department.
The Sedalia City Council pre-meeting will begin at 6:30 p.m. in the mayor’s conference room with the regular meeting immediately following at 7 p.m. in council chambers at the Municipal Building, 200 S. Osage Ave. For more information call 827-3000.
