Hooping cause

SYDNEY BRINK/DEMOCRAT Achilles Fugitt, 7, a Parkview Elementary School first grader, imitates some of the other kids and adults playing with their free hula hoops Wednesday at the "Whirled Peace" event put on by the Sedalia Spin Gypsies at the Sedalia Community Center. "Today is World Hoop Day," event coordinator Rachel Eddingfield said, noting that there were similar hooping activities going on across the country. The Spin Gypsies are a performance art group, made up of people from all different backgrounds who love to hoop, she said. "It is a physical activity that is creative, expressive and fun, it's like the hoop is an extension of the body," Eddingfield said. It addition to hooping, the group set up a crafting table where kids could create puppets for a performance and another table to make ribbon sticks. A magician was on hand to entertain the kids.
