Letter Carriers to host food drive

Comments 0 | Recommend 0

Letter carriers are picking up food donations Saturday along with dropping off the mail.

The local chapter of the National Association of Letter Carriers has scheduled its 15th annual food drive Saturday.

Volunteers and letter carriers will collect nonperishable items from peanut butter to baby diapers for Open Door and Salvation Army food pantries. People may set their donations next to their mailboxes.

Volunteers will not accept homemade items or those in glass containers.

Donors may also drop off items at the Post Office’s loading docks, where mail carriers will serve free hot dogs.

This year’s goal is to collect 20,000 pounds.

The food drive is in honor of the late Lawrence Roe, a former city councilman.
