Lincoln girls fall toLakeland in Warsaw tourney

Lincoln fell to Lakeland 58-37 on Wednesday in the consolation semifinal of the Warsaw girls basketball tournament.


Lakeland jumped out to a 22-8 lead after one quarter and held onto the lead the rest of the way.


Seana Hansen led the Lady Cardinals with 11 points. Sloan Swearingen added 10.


Junior High


Boys Basketball


Smith-Cotton 40, Jeff Junior 22


The Smith-Cotton boys basketball eighth grade ‘A’ team beat Jeff Junior of Columbia 40-22 on Wednesday.


Brice Pannier and Kaneif Dalark each scored 11 points for the Tigers.


Jeff Junior won the ‘B’ game 43-33. Dalark scored 18 in that game.


Smith-Cotton (2-0) will host Marshall at 5:30 p.m. Friday.


Late Tuesday


Boys Basketball


LaMonte 66, Chilhowee 50


Seth Johnson scored his 1,000th career point as LaMonte beat Chilhowee 66-50 on Tuesday.


Johnson reached the milestone on a 3-pointer with 29 seconds left in the first quarter. He finished with 27 in the game.


Juan Barajas added a career-high 22 points to go with six rebounds and four steals.


Chilhowee led 16-12 after one quarter but the Vikings went on a 13-6 run in the second to take a lead into halftime and outscored Chilhowee 19-10 in the third.


La Monte won the junior varsity game 16-15 in two quarters. Jason Thompson scored six points for the Vikings.


Sweet Springs 66, Green Ridge 61


Sweet Springs beat Green Ridge 66-61 Tuesday after outscoring the Tigers 29-14 in the final eight minutes. Green Ridge took a 31-29 lead into the half before outscoring Sweet Springs 16-8 in the third quarter, but Sweet Springs answered in the fourth.


Jacob Showengerdt scored 35 points for the Greyhounds. Nathan Vogelsmeier added 12 and Jeffery Hall scored 10.


Green Ridge’s Justin McCarthy led Green Ridge with 16 points. Alden Harding scored 14. Hunter Niceswander added 11.


Concordia 73, Northwest 60


Cass Heimsoth outscored Cortlen Austin as Concordia beat Northwest 73-60 on Tuesday.


Heimsoth scored 32 in the winning effort for the Orioles. Austin had 31 points and 17 rebounds for the Mustangs.


Northwest also got 10 points from Chandler Crosswhite.


Concordia led 14-11 after one, 33-27 at halftime and 53-45 after three.


Northwest (0-3) will visit Crest Ridge on Friday.


Concordia (1-2) will visit Carrollton on Friday.


Pilot Grove 61, Otterville 30


Pilot Grove picked up its first win over the year with a 61-30 win over Otterville on Tuesday.


Pilot Grove led 21-9 after one quarter and extended the lead to 33-17 at halftime and 60-26 after three.


Colton Glenn scored 27 points and have four rebounds, a steal and two assists for Pilot Grove hitting 11 of 15 from the field and 3 of 5 from 3-point range. Mason Schlotzhauer added 16 points hitting 4 of 6 from 3-point range. Trenton Young pulled down 14 rebounds.


Justin Halgren led Otterville with 13 points.


“We were able to control possessions and limit turnovers to one for the first three quarters of play and four all together, which played a major factor in our flow of the game,” said Pilot Grove coach Derek Skaggs.


Girls Basketball


Tipton 54, Chamois 50


Tipton pulled out a close 54-50 win over Chamois in the Tipton Invitational on Tuesday.


Jessica Petree led the Lady Cardinals with a double-double, scoring 10 points and pulling down 14 rebounds. Ashton Pace had 16 points and seven rebounds. Caroline Combs added 12 points and seven rebounds. Destiny Dowell had 11 points and three assists.


Warrensburg 45, Windsor 44


Windsor fell to Warrensburg 45-44 on Tuesday at the Marshall tournament.


Warrensburg hit a 3-pointer with 25 seconds left and Windsor could not hit a shot on its final possession.


Windsor led 10-8 after one quarter and 23-19 at the half before Warrensburg outscored them in the third period to cut the Windsor lead to 35-34.


Bailey Rollins had 21 points for Windsor. Haley Crouch had 12.


Windsor (2-2) will face Smith-Cotton at 6 p.m. Thursday to close out the Marshall tournament.


Concordia 55, Northwest 42


Concordia beat Northwest 55-42 on Tuesday.


Jessi Zimmerman led the Lady Mustangs with 13 points. Alyssa Durrill added 12 points and six rebounds. Lakota Wiskur scored nine points.


Northwest (0-3) will face Crest Ridge on Friday.


LaMonte 49, Chilhowee 22


LaMonte beat Chilhowee 49-22 on Tuesday.


Sandra Arroyo and Cathy Butts each scored in double figures for the Lady Vikings with Arroyo scoring 14 and Butts 12.


Arroyo, Vada Demotte and Katie Patrick each had two steals. Butts chipped in three assists.


LaMonte will host Kingsville on Thursday.


Crest Ridge 68, Kingsville 24


Crest Ridge moved to 2-0 on the year with a 68-24 win at Kingsville on Tuesday thanks in part to a 23-4 opening quarter.


Lily Hunter scored 19 points for Crest Ridge. Makayla Sivils added 15 and Addy Marshall scored 12.
