Girls Basketball


Sweet Springs 44, Wellington 33


Sweet Springs beat Wellington 44-33 Wednesday night, after leading 17-12 going into halftime.


“We played an excellent game defensively against a very good team,” said Sweet Springs coach Boyd Jones. “Christina Higgins had a fine game including 10-12 from the free throw line. Kati Viets had a fine floor game. Our two seniors led us after a disappointing outcome Monday. When these girls realize how good they are we will be tough to handle.”


Christina Higgins led the Lady Greyhounds with 26 points and eight rebounds. Nicole Bright had eight points, 14 rebounds and two assists, while Kati Viets added four points, four rebounds and three assists. The team made 18 of 28 free throws.


St. Paul Lutheran 40, Crest Ridge 23


St. Paul Lutheran in Concordia beat Crest Ridge in the second round of the I-70 Tournament with a final score of 40-23 Wednesday night at home. St. Paul led 26-14 going into halftime.


Rebecca Roepe led the Saints with eight points and 10 rebounds, and made both of her attempted free throws. Tiffany Bennett had three points, two rebounds and two assists.


The Saints are now 3-0 and will play in the tournament again today.


Boys Basketball


Prairie Home 48, Northwest 32


Prairie Home won against Northwest with a final score of 48-32 Wednesday night in the second round of the Pilot Grove Tournament. Prairie Home led 23-9 at halftime.


The Panthers were led by Rayce Kendrick with six points, four rebounds and five assists. He made one of two free throws. Jonathan Brandes added five points to the final score, as well as five rebounds and one assist. Ross Kendrick also added five points, with seven rebounds and one assist.


The Panthers are now 3-2, and will go on to play Calvary Lutheran at 9 p.m. today in the tournament.


Wrestling


Smith-Cotton 48, Boonville 25


Smith-Cotton won its dual wrestling match against Boonville Thursday night. Smith-Cotton received 48 points, and Boonville received 25.


Smith-Cotton had five pins. At 126 pounds, Luke Archibeque pinned Kurtis Danner in 1:23. At 138 pounds, Tanner Proctor pinned Timothy Price in 3:02. At 160 pounds, Noah Aziere pinned Joel Concannon in 0:24. At 182 pounds, Barry Rivera pinned Lucas Gerke in 4:56. At 195 pounds, Wade Hagebusch pinned Keandre Anderson in 1:06.
