Smithton outran Northwest 85-41 in a Kaysinger Conference boys basketball game Tuesday in Smithton.

The Tigers led 30-16 after one quarter and 56-28 at halftime.

Drew Apsher scored 28 points for Smithton including seven 3-pointers. Dane Apsher added 18. Everybody who dressed for Smithton scored.

Cortlen Austin had 15 points for Northwest. Truman Leicher added 10.

Northwest will visit St. Paul Lutheran on Saturday.

Smithton (11-1, 4-0) will host La Monte on Friday.

Knob Noster 58, Higginsville 52

Knob Noster avenged a loss in the county tournament on Saturday by beat Higginsville 58-52 on Tuesday in Knob Noster.

The Panthers outscored the Huskers 11-5 in the second quarter and 21-14 in the third to take the lead in what had been a tied game after one.

David Barton scored 16 to lead Knob Noster, hitting 6 of 8 from the field. Brett Marsh scored 15.

Green Ridge 75 Windsor 73

Axton Hardin hit a pair of free throws with four seconds left and Trenton Johnson’s 3-pointer at the buzzer hit the back iron as Green Ridge beat Windsor 75-73 in a Kaysinger Conference boys basketball game Tuesday in Windsor.

Green Ridge led 18-13 after one quarter and 43-30 at the half before Windsor came back with a 16-11 rally in the third and outscored the Tigers 25-21 in the fourth.

Harding finished with 30 points. Hunter Niceswander added 17 and Hayden Doane had 15.

Aaron Garoutte led Windsor with 28 points and Johnson had 20. Jakob Erdman scored 10 points.

Windsor (6-5, 1-2 Kaysinger) will visit Tipton on Friday.

Green Ridge (7-7, 1-1) will visit Stover on Friday.

Girls Basketball

Smithton 56, Northwest 52

Smithton held off Northwest 56-52 in a Kaysinger Conference girls basketball game Tuesday in Smithton.

Mariah Cairer scored 26 for Smithton. Kaley Snapp added 15 and Whitney Fisher scored nine.

Jessi Zimmerman and Alyssa Durrill each scored 18 points for northwest with Durrill adding 17 rebounds. Lakota Wiskur had 10 points and 14 rebounds.

Northwest will host Cole Camp in the Court-Warming game on Friday.

Smithton will visit La Monte on Friday.

Tipton 71, La Monte 39

Tipton earned a Kaysinger Conference victory with a 71-39 win over La Monte on Tuesday.

Cathy Butts led La Monte with 12 points, four rebounds, two assists and a steal.

Sandra Arroyo added 11 points.

Crest Ridge 46, Concordia 41

The Concordia Lady Orioles fell to Crest Ridge 46-41 on Tuesday.

Concordia jumped out to a 10-4 lead after one but the Cougars rallied back.

Cailey Cooper scored 14 points for Concordia and Ellison Brunkhorst added 12.


Smith-Cotton 40, Warrensburg 33

The Smith-Cotton wrestlers edged Warrensburg 40-33 on Tuesday to remain unbeaten in the West Central Conference.

At 113 pounds, Smith-Cotton’s Kyle Perez pinned Sean Parr in 1:14. Logan Parham took a9-2 decision in the 120 class to beat Warrensburg’s Lonnie Kendrick. Luke Archibeque fell at 126 pounds on a 2-0 decision but Tanner Proctor answered for Smith-Cotton with a 7-1 decision at 132.

The teams traded pins with Jake McFail scoring six points for Smith-Cotton with a second-period pinfall at 138 and Noah Aziere getting a 56 second pinfall at 152 pounds and James Culp pinning Smith-Cotton’s Zach Paynter in the 145 bout and Cole Hunter getting the pin for Warrensburg at 160.

Smith-Cotton clinched the win with Jacob Weeks scoring a 14-2 major decision in the 170 match over Ben Richner, Barry Rivera pinning Lane Batusic at 182 and Wade Hagebusch pinning Jake Gard at 195.

Warrensburg scored pinfalls at 220 and 285 and a forfeit at 106.


Girls Basketball

Smith-Cotton 19, Grain Valley 13

The Smith-Cotton freshmen girls basketball team defeated Grain Valley, 19-13, Tuesday night at S-C Junior High.

The Lady Tigers (3-1) led 12-6 at halftime. They were led by Kiara Williams and Alicia Huse, who each had 6 points. Courtney McKey led the Lady Eagles with 6.

Boys Basketball

Smith-Cotton 49, Grain Valley 38

The Smith-Cotton freshmen boys basketball team used a turnover-inducing press to get out to an early lead Tuesday night as the Tigers topped Grain Valley, 49-38, at S-C Junior High.

Forward Tanner Powell applied pressure on the backcourt, forcing errant Eagles passes that resulted in fast-break buckets for the Tigers (4-3) as they built a 28-16 halftime lead. A-C was led by Kendall Weymouth with 14 points; Zach Morrison added 12 and Powell had 8.

The Eagles were led by Dylan Meredith with 10.

Junior High

Boys Basketball

Smith-Cotton 41, Versailles 30

The Smith-Cotton eighth grade boys basketball team beat Versailles 41-30 on Tuesday at the Warsaw Tournament.

Brice Pannier scored 12 for the Tigers. Terrence Callaway added eight.

Smith-Cotton will face Eldon on Ednesday.

Girls Basketball

Versailles 28, Smith-Cotton 23

Smith-Cotton’s eighth grade girls basketball team fell to Versailles 28-23 at the Warsaw Tournament.

Darby Christian had eight points and Abbey Ahern had seven for the Lady Tigers.
