The Smith-Cotton girls swimming and diving team took seventh at the Joe Arbisi Invitational on Saturday, taking 133 points. Winnetonka finished first with 462 points. Smith-Cotton finished four points behind sixth place Marshall.
Ali Burkholder’s time of 2:37.83 earned her fourth place in theindividual medley. With 50 yards left in the race she trailed Winnetonka’s Amanda Kluth by several seconds before rallying to finish less that a second behind the third-place finisher.
Kluth also edged Burkholder in the backstroke as Burkholder’s time of 1:11.14 was good for fourth place.
Burkholder also swam the backstroke for Smith-Cotton’s medley relay team, joining forces with Autumn Proffitt, Abby Monsees and Sarah Skrzypczak to claim eighth place in a time of 2:29.39, more than 12 seconds faster than the Lady Tigers’ seed time of 2:41.60.
Smith-Cotton took fifth in the 400 freestyle relay as the team of Burkholder, Kaytlyn Muhr, Rachael Meyer and Monsees finished in 4:45.49, beating their seed time by 11 seconds.
The Lady Tigers’ 200 freestyle relay team of Meyer, Muhr, Proffitt and Skrzypczak took seventh in 2:17.93.
Monsees was fifth in the 500 with a time of 6:29.59, edging Winnetonka’s Imani Guerro by two seconds. Meyer finished 20th.
Monsees also took fifth in the 200 freestyle with a time of 2:23.48, beating her seed time of 2:23.94 and finishing .02 seconds behind Jessica Frost of Winnetonka.
Muhr took 18th in the 100 freestyle. She also finished 20th in the breaststroke in a time of 1:41.09. Meyer finished 26th and Proffitt took 27th.
Proffitt was 20th in the IM with a time of 3:44.11.
Skrzypczak was 16th in the butterfly and 29th in the 50 freestyle.
