Jacob Bergman’s monster night propelled the Smith-Cotton Tigers to a 92-81 nonconference boy basketball victory Wednesday night at Marshall High School.

Bergman had 31 points, 18 rebounds and seven blocked shots.

Chance Johnson added 22 points, Dante Scroggins had 15 and Spencer Ruckman 11.

Jared Armstrong paced Marshall with 21 points.

The Tigers led 18-15 after one quarter, 42-38 at halftime and 68-58 after three quarters.

S-C (4-7) will host Lebanon on Friday night at Smith-Cotton Junior High School.

In the junior varsity game, S-C beat Marshall 34-30. Seth Fraley paced S-C (3-6) with 13 points.


Concordia 67, Kingsville 27

Cassidy Brockman scored 20 points Wednesday night, and the Concordia Orioles beat Kingsville 67-27 in a consolation semifinal of the Wellington-Napoleon girls basketball tournament in Wellington.

Cailey Cooper added 16 points, and Ellison Brunkhorst had 12.



Knob Noster 66, Holden 50

Brett Marsh got the Knob Noster boys basketball team rolling, and David Barton overcame a slow start in the Panthers’ 66-50 win over Holden in a Missouri River Valley Conference East matchup at Holden.

“Holden did a great job of frustrating David Barton in the first half,” Knob Noster coach Adam Easterwood said. “The hot shooting of Brett Marsh opened things up and gave Dave some great looks in the second half.”

Marsh finished with a game-high 22 points, Barton tallied 13, Hayden Anderson had 11 and Garnett Williams had 10. Marsh went 5 for 5 from 3-point range.

Knob Noster (14-1 overall, 3-0 MRVC East) led 13-11 after one quarter, 25-18 after two and 47-31 after three.

Eldon 80, Warsaw 71

The Eldon Mustangs outscored Warsaw 25-14 in the fourth quarter Tuesday night to beat the Wildcats 80-71 in a Tri-County Conference boys basketball game at Eldon.

The Wildcats (8-6) rallied from a 27-14 first-quarter deficit to take a 57-54 lead after three quarters. They cut their deficit to 41-39 by halftime.

Randall Sherman scored a game-high 29 points for the Wildcats, and Jesse Chamberlain added 23.


KC Lutheran 50, La Monte 30

Madison Harris scored 10 points, but the La Monte girls basketball team was no match for Lutheran, of Kansas City, which won 50-30 Tuesday night in Kansas City.

Sandra Arroyo and Cathy Butts added eight points each for the Lady Vikings.


Carrollton 51, Warsaw 24

Five Warsaw wrestlers earned victories Tuesday night in a dual match against Carrollton at Holden High School.

Tyler Summers beat Shane Stark 6-4 in the 170-pound bout. At 195, Kyle Goodsell pinned Bryce Miller at one minute. Marshall Wilson pinned Chase Aldrich in 1:13 of the 113 match. Austin Larsen beat Cameron Wheeler 11-6 at 138 pounds.

Michael Bryson won the 220-pound match by forfeit, and Carrollton recorded four wins by forfeit.

Holden 66, Warsaw 9

The Warsaw Wildcats won only one contested wrestling match Tuesday in a dual match against Holden at Holden High School.

Austin Larsen defeated Jakob Laing 6-0 at 145 pounds.

Marshall Wilson won by forfeit at 113.
