A Destiny Dowell 3-pointer with less than a minute left lifted Tipton to a 40-36 win over Sacred Heart in a Kaysinger Conference girls basketball game on Thursday.
The Cardinals led in what was a close game most of the way until Sacred Heart held them scoreless for much of the fourth quarter and took the lead with 1:30 left. Caroline Combs then tied it for Tipton with a 3-pointer.
Combs led Tipton with 13 points. Ashton Pace added seven.
Claudia Cox led Sacred Heart with 18 points and 11 rebounds. Gabbi Ebers added nine points.
Sacred Heart (8-6, 4-1 Kaysinger) will open the Slater Tournament against the host Wildcats at 7:30 p.m. Monday.
Tipton (11-5, 3-1 Kaysinger) will host Lincoln on Monday.
Glasgow 49, Sweet Springs 32
Glasgow scored 17 points in the second quarter to beat Sweet Springs 49-32 on Thursday.
Christina Higgins scored 10 points and pulled down four rebounds for the Lady Greyhounds.
“I thought we had an excellent effort against an excellent team,” said Sweet Springs coach Boyd Jones. “(Abby) Thompson and Erin Reynolds had seven 3-pinters for Glasgow which was a real killer for us.”
Windsor 67, La Monte 63
In a high-scoring fourth quarter, Windsor came back to beat La Monte 67-63 Thursday in La Monte.
The Vikings led 37-35 entering the final quarter before the Greyhounds outscored them 32-26 in the last eight minutes.
Seth Johnson led La Monte with 22 points, including four 3-pointers. Juan Barajas added 18 points, six rebounds and six assists. Tristan Hackworth scored 11 points and Jason Thompson had 10 points and 10 rebounds.
La Monte (5-10, 0-6 Kaysinger) will face Crest Ridge in the Leeton Tournament on Tuesday.
Windsor (7-7, 2-3 Kaysinger) will host Northwest today.
Green Ridge 73, Northwest 49
Green Ridge pulled away in the fourth quarter to beat Northwest 73-49 on Thursday in Green Ridge.
After leading 49-42 after three quarters, the Tigers outscored the Mustangs 24-7 in the fourth after the game was close most of the way.
Axton Harding scored 26 points for Green Ridge. Hunter Niceswander added 15 and Connor Dillon had a double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds.
Northwest’s Corlten Austin scored 19 points.
Green Ridge (9-8, 3-2 Kaysinger) will visit Lincoln today.
Warsaw 80, Cole Camp 45
A 29-point first quarter helped Warsaw run to an 80-45 win over Cole Camp in a non-conference game on Thursday.
Randall Sherman led the Wildcats with 28 points. Jesse Chamberlin added 18. Joey Cooner scored 12 points and Bailey Jelinek scored 11.
Tanner Oelrichs scored 15 for the Bluebirds.
Belton 166, Smith-Cotton 126
Smith-Cotton fell to Belton in girls swimming on Thursday despite a pair of relay wins.
The Lady Tigers medley relay team of Ali Burkholder, Wendsday Thompson, Abby Monsees and Brittany Borke took first with a time of 2:20.81.
Those swimmers also teamed up to win the 200 freestyle relay in a time of 2:03.00.
Burkholder won the individual medley with a time of 2:37.81 with Borke finishing second. Burkholder’s 1:13.76 in the backstroke was good for first place in that race as Smith-Cotton’s Kaitlyn Puentes took fifth.
Monsees also won the 500 freestyle with a time of 6:38.57 as teammates Mariah Turner and Rachael Meyer took fourth and fifth.
Thompson won the 50 freestyle with a time of 30.16 to beat Belton’s Elizabeth Smith by .03 seconds. Sarah Skrzypczak took third in the race.
Thompson won the 100 freestyle with a time of 1:07.04. Teammate Kaytlyn Muhr took fourth.
The 400 freestyle relay team of Turner, Muhr, Skrzypczak and Meyer took second place with a time of 5:27.30.
Lathrop 33, Knob Noster 30
The Knob Noster wrestling team fell to Lathrop 33-30 on Thursday.
The Panthers got a pinfall victory by Taylor Rogalski in the 113-pound match in 5:45. Lathrop got pins at 120 pounds and 126 pounds before taking a 10-6 decision in the 132 match. Knob Noster lost the 145 match on a first-period pinfall.
Smith-Cotton 36, Warrensburg 25
Smith-Cotton’s eighth grade ‘A’ boys basketball team beat Warrensburg 36-25 on Thursday.
Kaneif Balark led the Tigers with nine points. Zach Gwaltney scored eight.
The Smith-Cotton ‘B’ team won 42-10. Kinser Corbett scored 12 points for the Tigers. Gunnar Creach added eight.
Smith-Cotton will play at Tipton on Tuesday.
Northwest 21, Windsor 16
Northwest beat Windsor 21-16 in junior high girls basketball on Thursday.
Megan Walk led the Lady Mustangs with 10 points. Ashlynn Liebl added eight.
Warrensburg 35, Smith-Cotton 30
Smith-Cotton’s eighth grade ‘A’ girls basketball team fell to Warrensburg 35-30 on Thursday.
Macy Hoover led the Lady Tigers with 12 points.
Smith-Cotton won the ‘B’ game 12-7.
Holly Bietzman and Santana Seevers each scored four points.
