The Kaysinger Conference boys and girls tournament champions received more good news Saturday.

The Sacred Heart boys and Tipton girls were named the No. 1 seeds for their upcoming district tournaments.

The Gremlins (21-0 through Monday) lead Class 2, District 14 at Crest Ridge near Centerview, and the Cardinals (15-8) are on top of Class 2, District 8 at Russellville.

Kaysinger girls tournament runner-up, Windsor, was named the No. 1 seed in Class 2, District 14.

The Gremlins, ranked No. 2 in Class 2, will likely see their biggest challenge from second-seeded Sweet Springs (15-6) but must beat La Monte (6-15) in the first round and Concordia (11-13) or Windsor (9-10) in the semifinals for that matchup to happen.

Windsor’s girls (15-6) have proven to be beatable this season, losing a Kaysinger regular-season matchup to Cole Camp and to Tipton in the conference tournament title game. However, the Greyhounds will be going for their third straight district title. Their road to the title won’t be an easy one. After opening against Green Ridge (3-19), they would meet either Sweet Springs (12-10) or Sacred Heart (12-9) in the semifinals with Santa Fe (13-12) and Crest Ridge (11-11) likely coming from the bottom of the bracket.

Class 2, District 8 could come down to a Kaysinger Conference matchup in the title game. The No. 2 Cole Camp girls (15-8) appear to have the best chance of beating Tipton. No. 3 New Bloomfield (11-10), No. 4 Russellville (11-13) and No. 5 Stover (4-9) could pull off an upset or two.

Here’s a brief look at each of the districts involving teams from the Democrat’s coverage area.

Pilot Grove (20-5) sits atop the district bracket, and the tournament will be played at Northwest High School in Hughesville. The Tigers will open against No. 8 Calhoun (1-15) . No. 4 Northwest (7-14) will take on No. 5 Otterville (9-15) in the first round.
