The Warsaw boys basketball team opened Class 3, District 13 play with a 64-62 win over Sherwood on Tuesday.

The Wildcats trailed 19-17 after one quarter, 32-27 at the half and 45-40 after three before rallying in the fourth, outscoring Sherwood 26-17 in the final eight minutes.

Randall Sherman scored 31 points including hitting 10 of 10 from the free throw line. Jessi Chamberlain added 12 points.

Warsaw will face Stockton in the district semifinal at 7:30 p.m. today.

Class 2, District 14

Sweet Springs 66, Crest Ridge 28

Sweet Springs opened the Class 2, District 14 boys basketball tournament with a 66-28 win over the host Crest Ridge Cougars on Tuesday.

The Greyhounds jumped out to a 22-12 lead after one quarter, then outscored the Cougars 24-4 in the second quarter.

Jacob Schowengerdt had 16 points, eight rebounds and six assists. Nathan Vogelsmeier had 13 points, 13 rebounds and five steals. Jeffery Hall led the Greyhounds with 17 points, hitting 5 of 8 from 3-point range. Zach Weber had eight rebounds.

With the win, Sweet Springs has reached the 20-win mark for the first time since the 1959-60 season when the ‘Hounds went 21-3.

Sweet Springs will play Green Ridge in the district semifinal at 7:30 p.m. today.

Green Ridge 101, Santa Fe 86

Green Ridge scored more points than any Kaysinger Conference team has scored in a game this season in a 101-86 district win over Santa Fe on Tuesday.

The Tigers are only the second team in Missouri to reach the 100-point mark in a district game this year. Scott County Central scored 102 points in a win over McKinley Classical Leadership on Saturday.

The Tigers led 32-14 after one quarter, 61-39 at the half and 77-60 after three.

Five Tigers scored in double figures as Hayden Doane led the way with 22 points, shooting 8 of 12 from the field. Axton Harding scored 21 points including 7 of 9 from the free throw line and 6 of 15 from the field. Justin McCarthy scored 14 points, Hunter Niceswander scored 13 and Peyton Needy added 12. Niceswander also had eight rebounds, two blocks and two steals. Doane and Connor Dillon each contributed five assists. Doane had two blocked shots and four steals.

Green Ridge will play Sweet Springs in the district semifinal at 7:30 p.m. today.

Class 1, District 8

Northwest 59, Otterville 51

Northwest got 17 points from Cortlen Austin in a 59-51 district win over Otterville on Tuesday.

Austin also chipped in 14 rebounds, eight steals and five assists.

Ryan Rafferty, Chandler Crosswhite and Truman Leicher each scored 10 points.

The Mustangs jumped out to a 19-12 lead after one quarter and led 33-24 at the half and 46-37 after three quarters.

Northwest will face Pilot Grove in the district semifinal at 6 p.m. today.
